Dr. Mallikarjun Kalashetty initiated his medical journey at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum where he completed his MBBS and MD in General Medicine. His achievements and interests in hematology also led him to pursue a DM in Clinical Hematology from the Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, graduating with distinction. During his academic journey, Dr. Mallikarjun obtained a solid grounding in the diagnosis and management of complex blood disorders and prepared him for advanced work in the field of hematology and bone marrow transplantation.
Specialty Area
Dr. Kalashetty's area of expertise is blood and marrow transplantation, which has both specialist craft as well as the need for patient-centered care. His area of skills include:

Dr. Kalashetty began his medical journey at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, where he completed both his MBBS and MD in General Medicine. To specialize further, he received a DM in Clinical Hematology from Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital, Mumbai, one of the most prestigious medical institutions in India. He not only graduated with honors, but displayed exceptional academic rigor and commitment to his studies. Appreciating the benefit of receiving input from different specialties around the world (especially when it came to the latest division and tenor of health care), he took the opportunity to further his knowledge by accepting a fellowship in the area of bone marrow transplantation at Vancouver General Hospital, Canada. This exposure helped him come back to India and integrate many of the practices employed by care in Canada into an Indian context, as well as assisting in the need for unified, global standards of care.
Experience and Contributions
Upon his return to India, Dr. Kalashetty joined HCG MSR Cancer Center and M.S. Ramaiah Medical College in Bangalore. However, he neither consulted, but also led stem cell transplantation in India. The center has garnered notoriety in providing high-tech care for clinical hematology. Dr. Kalashetty certainly had a hand in making this happen, not to mention the ongoing and inseparable practice of public engagement to coordinate and mobilize advocacy for blood disorders.
"Our mission is to ensure the patients have access to evidence-based, high-quality care. There are many blood disorders that are treatable now, but they need to be at the right time," Dr. Kalashetty noted during a 2023 panel discussion on hematologic care in India.
